The Division of Small Animal Internal Medicine, Department of Clinical Veterinary Science, Vetsuisse Faculty, University of Bern, Switzerland, invites candidates to apply for the position starting April 1, 2026.
Successful candidates will enrol in a 4-year programme approved by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and will be trained to be eligible for board examination. The resident will work at the Small Animal Hospital of the Vetsuisse Faculty Bern under direct supervision of five ACVIM and/or ECVIM-CA Diplomates. Numerous Diplomates of other European and/or American Colleges are available on site.
Tasks
The resident will take primary responsibility for small animal internal medicine cases when on clinics and will have 4-5 months off-clinics per year. During that time, he/she will perform clinical rotations in related specialities, plan and carry out a residency research project, participate in international congresses, and take his/her paid vacation (5 weeks annually). The resident will be involved in clinical teaching of students and interns. He/she will be scheduled to take part in the primary emergency duty roster of the Hospital.
Requirements
• Candidates must have completed a one-year rotating internship programme or be able to demonstrate equivalent experience from working in small animal private practice.
• Candidates should have at least basic knowledge of the German and French languages and be willing to improve these language skills as needed to efficiently communicate with the owners of our patients.
