A position for a graduate student will be available starting 01.10.2025 (not negotiable) in the Faso group at the Institute of Cell Biology of the University of Bern. The Institute of Cell Biology is a very competitive location, featuring access to state-of-the-art infrastructure and supporting a community of diverse researchers and topics.
Tasks
We investigate mechanisms of protein trafficking, with a focus on secretion and endocytosis, using protists as experimental models. Methods and tools/approaches employed in our group range from molecular and cell biology, including cell culturing and transfection, microscopy, proteomics, bioinformatics, molecular dynamics and in silico structural modelling.
Your profile
We are seeking an enthusiastic graduate student for a PhD project as part of an international (CH, UK, CZ, SWE) collaboration funded by an SNSF-WEAVE grant, where we aim to investigate adaptations to parasitism using comparative spatial proteomics.

The successful applicant will join a small and vibrant research team and, at the same time, be part of a research effort involving three other groups with complementary expertise, distributed across Europe. As for all graduate students in the group, the successful applicant shall join the Graduate School for Cellular and Biomedical Sciences (GCB) at the University of Bern.
