The Department of Clinical Research (DCR) is an academic center and umbrella organization supporting clinical researchers at the University of Bern and the University Hospitals. It is comprised of a range of established academic research units, dedicated methodological divisions, a Clinical Investigation Unit, a Medical Data Science subunit established in 2025, and a Gender Medicine Unit scheduled for implementation in 2026.

The DCR is a multidisciplinary institution that serves as a central body for expertise, innovation, strategic leadership, modern pedagogical approaches, and integrated infrastructure to support clinical research. It offers support to clinical researchers, along the entire research process from study design to implementation. DCR maintains close collaborative ties with the Medical Faculty of the University of Bern and the associated University Hospitals.

The DCR is a national leader in Switzerland in the field of Patient and Public Involvement (PPI), which refers to the active involvement of patients and members of the public in the design, conduct, and dissemination of research. PPI helps ensure that research is relevant, transparent, and aligned with the needs and priorities of those it aims to benefit.

Tasks
Education & Training (50%)
  • Coordinate and document teaching activities
  • Support lecturers and course developers in planning and organizing training events
  • Maintain and update educational materials for seminars and courses
  • Assist with logistical tasks such as room bookings, scheduling, and course lists
  • Support communication with participants and organise course evaluations
  • Help prepare and format learning and promotional materials
  • Provide assistance with digital content and user testing on educational platforms
  • Collaborate with internal colleagues (e.g. across DCR) and external partners such as CTU Bern and the sitem School

Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) (50%)
  • Support the preparation of consultations with clinical researchers and industry partners
  • Assist in documenting PPI consultations and maintain contact with PPI contributors
  • Help update and maintain training materials related to PPI
  • Support the coordination of the PPI contributor panel and associated outreach activities
  • Contribute to visibility efforts, such as the creation of flyers, short texts, and presentations for internal and external communication
  • Assist with archiving and transferring PPI-related educational content to new platforms
  • Support basic research-related tasks, such as literature searches, editing of plain language summaries, and survey collection
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in health sciences, Education, Public Health, Communication, or a related field
  • Interest in or initial experience with teaching or educational support at university level
  • Keen interest in clinical research and/or patient involvement in research
  • Excellent communication skills in German and English (minimum B2–C1 level)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS)
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • High attention to detail, reliability, and commitment to producing high-quality results
  • A valid work permit for Switzerland
