Project Description

The CHEOPS Instrument Team invites applications for a Data Analyst position to support the mission's Monitoring and Characterisation (M&C) activities. The successful candidate will contribute to the analysis of instrument performance and ageing effects, as well as to the development and maintenance of software tools supporting CHEOPS scientific operations. The Data Analyst is a CHEOPS Science Team Core Member (Ex officio), and attendance at the in-person CHEOPS Science Team Meetings is expected.

Contract duration is one year, with the possibility of extension for three additional years, subject to the approval of a CHEOPS mission extension.

What You Can Achieve

The jobholder will be responsible for the following tasks:
  • Maintenance and further development of existing software used for the analysis of CHEOPS Monitoring and Characterisation (M&C) data.
  • Maintenance and evolution of the automation system to process M&C data, including Linux/VM management
  • Development of new software tools as required, in particular for analyses related to CCD radiation damage and instrument ageing.
  • Support of mission performance analyses and contribution to the development of mitigation strategies.
  • Active participation in the activities of the Science Team Working Group TS1 (Instrument Characterisation, Performance & Calibration), Working Group TS2 (Light curve analysis toolkit) and CHEOPS Project Science Office.

Your Profile

  • PhD in Physics, Astronomy, or a closely related discipline.
  • Proven experience in scientific data analysis.
  • Very strong programming skills in data analysis, particularly in Python.
  • Good knowledge of the following Python modules: NumPy, Pandas, Astropy and SciPy.
  • Knowledge of Linux (Unix) system hosting on virtual machines
  • Ability to learn and work independently and in a team
  • A plus: Knowledge of CHEOPS data products and software pipelines
  • A plus: Knowledge of CCDs' working principle
  • A plus: Good understanding of SW automation
